LEGERE OPEN EDU

Code of Ethics & Manifesto

Our principles on research ethics, intellectual property, and publication.

01

Our Manifesto

Legere is an independent academic research network where knowledge is freely produced, shared, and debated. We operate independently of institutional hierarchies, grounded in curiosity and critical thinking.

Our name derives from the Latin word "legere": to read, to select, and to bring together. These three actions define not only our research process but also our ethical stance — we read carefully, choose consciously, and bring together by drawing strength from diversity.

We believe that interdisciplinary dialogue generates insights that no single discipline could achieve alone. Therefore, we explore the research questions of the future at the intersection of criminology, sociology, philosophy, data science, and other fields.

02

Intellectual Property

All individual ideas, notes, and drafts produced during a workshop belong to the researcher who created them. Legere never claims rights over individual intellectual property under any circumstances.

Collaborative outputs (articles, reports, presentations, etc.) are jointly owned by all contributing researchers. Contribution levels and author order are determined transparently at the beginning of each project.

Any data, analysis, or ideas shared by a researcher within a workshop cannot be used in other contexts without the explicit written permission of that person.

03

Publication Procedure

Transforming workshop outputs into publications occurs only with the consensus of all authors. No unilateral publication decisions can be made.

Author order is determined by the principle of academic contribution. Actual contribution takes precedence over seniority or title. In cases of equal contribution, alphabetical ordering applies.

Before publication, all authors approve the final draft. Any author retains the right of veto.

Legere encourages open access publishing. Whenever possible, research outputs are shared on platforms accessible to everyone.

04

Transparency

Workshop programs, methods, and evaluation criteria are shared with participants in advance.

Acceptance/rejection decisions are based on topic relevance and field diversity. Decisions are communicated with justification.

Legere does not pursue any commercial, political, or institutional interests. All activities are conducted under the principle of academic independence.

05

Code of Conduct

Respect: All participants treat researchers from different disciplines and backgrounds with respect.

Inclusivity: No discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, age, or academic title.

Integrity: Research data, sources, and contributions are reported accurately. Plagiarism and data manipulation are strictly unacceptable.

Confidentiality: Unpublished ideas and data shared in workshop discussions cannot be disclosed externally without the sharer's permission.

06

Data & Privacy

Participants' personal data is used solely for workshop organization purposes and is not shared with third parties.

Data collected within research is processed and stored in accordance with ethical standards.

07

Recording & Content Policy

Not every intellectual gathering should become content. Distinct modes exist: public and recorded, public but not recorded, internal colloquium / limited archive.

Separate explicit consent is obtained for recording, edited clips, and publication of contributions.
